Here we go again!

I am so pleased with my
main layout that I contracted EAGLEWINGS again. This time to rebuild my old wooden RDC Line.

The old structure is a  5 year old point to point about 50 feet long. Some improvements have taken place over the years but, it has been a real headache from time to time.

It was time to go all the way with
Eaglewings
at the West Berlin GRR.

A few emailed photos of the old line, a couple of phone calls to work out the details and work begins.
This is it.. The entire Point to Point. Bridge, roadbed and, on the floor, is the one of two station decks. The right photo is the "end of line" blocker plate.  This keep the ballast where it needs
to be......on the roadbed.

I talk to Dan on the phone and he draws. This is a quick sketch by Dan while I explained  the connection at the bridge with the "ballast blocker" and roadbed that I wanted. Also a top view showing the railings.

Smaller truck made the delivery this time
Smaller package too!
So small it looks like it was sent AIR to Philly.
Truck Driver Erik poses with a Conrail U25B.
He asks  "Do you have CSX too?"
Unpacked and next to the old Point to Point.
It all looks good!
A short, but ugly Heat Wave, prevents a sooner set up..
The old rotten Cold Spring Station area is next to come down. The roadbed came down first.
Up to the bridge has been removed.
It's still a ways before I get to Cape May City.
Cold Spring and roadbed are up..
Next is to attach the Canal Bridge.
I like it already!
The new Canal Bridge is in place
Further down the line I go.
Another Heat Wave approaches.. This one will last 9 days with triple digit heat indices.
After 9 days of AC and looking out the window I get to start the ballasting. YAAAAAAY!
Here are close up pix of the fabric that lays on the roadbed base.

Rock dust is poured, leveled then the track is laid.
Adjustable Ballasting Push Tool...The ballast needs to be about 1/4 of an inch to become even with "LIP" where the bridge and roadbed connect.  The track is laid and more ballast is added to the sides. The track really floats on this roadbed. On the main layout it doesn't.
The New RDC LINE
The New Canal Bridge

The M-407 made it's first pass on August 10th.

No more plastic to maintain.
The  new bridge weights about 35 pounds. The railings are steel rods welded together.
The New Cold Spring

Plenty of room for 4 buildings and a working target signal.

Plenty of parking too!

Improvements
Why is the Farm House there?? Well...at the real Cape May station there is a house close to the tracks at the crossing. I thought it would be more to the real location if I included it on mine. Odd yes! But, it does get folks talking.. Place your mouse on this photo to see the REAL house.
