Since this was my first open house in the Fall
I wanted to add a little color around the yard..
BUT..you'd never know it was fall. The temp got up to 87 and broke an existing Philly record set back in the late 1800's.
Al Gore  must be right folks..

The Pointers
The sign reads 6 TRACKS..  but, I had only 5 trains running.
Why you ask? Before the June Open House I bought an HLW Barrel Kit to fill in a dead space in the corner of the yard. It worked out great  for the June Open House...It then sat the rest of June and July THEN.. came testing it  for the August Open House. I had to remove all the track and clean the connections and re-install the track back on the hangers for it to run.. It ran OK in August but, this corner gets sun for 6 hours in the summer and things just weren't holding up like I expected they should. It's time to re-think this!
It was suggested that I try Sunday,  Oct. 7th for the October Open House. Since most would have off from work on Monday for the Columbus Day holiday thus, putting the Open House smack in the middle of a 3 day week-end.  It DID work out very well .
This is what the visitors saw on October 7th.

This is what the visitors saw In June.
Cute huh?
I contracted Eaglewings Iron Craft to make me new hangers so, a 4 foot diameter loop of brass track could be installed.
We all know these are really tight curves on a running layout but, on the barrel, it's like having 10 footers..
The trains running here will labor less on this track and it will hold up a lot better than HLW's track.

Guest Diesel Visit
Bob Shaw's  custom painted GP7. Bob is a BIG Reading fan and he just had to re-paint a "closeout"  USMC GP7 to fill the void in his prime mover roster.  Bob stripped it down and repainted it in September. He then displayed it on is layout durning his last open house but didn't run it.  He brought it to my Open House and we ran it for about an hour.  Bob (left) and Charlie Kratz watch & listen (a Phoenix 2K2 is installed)as it travels westward.

The plow is from USA Trains and decals were made by Robert Dustin. Nice job Bob(s)!
