The ceiling dimensions of the "Hanging Cliffs RR’s" available space dictated that I use 2 pieces of R1 curve track on the bridge end and, 2 pieces on the wall end. I never expected to run anything larger than a Bachmann 2-4-2 and some narrow gauge cars over the bridge and this trackage would be okay. I also wanted to keep the width of the bridge as small as possible.

I did very little running last year because, by the time I finished the basement in late February 2002 it was warm enough to run outside. The smaller engines DID run through just fine but, when I did change engines to a 4-6-0 and when it crossed the bridge, the cowcatcher bumped the ceiling hanger on the R1 track.

The winter of 2003 has been VERY different. Snow, and well below normal temperatures forced me to "re-do" the bridge crossing to accommodate the body swing of LARGER engines and, get my much needed winter "Train Fix". I replaced the wooden hangers with support chains, on the entrance and exit of the bridge.

The wall side of the loop didn’t need adjustment.
